Get Your Child Ready For Kindergarten!
About our program
For students who will begin Kindergarten, this is a formative time for them. They will be introduced to new experiences, different types of people and subjects that they have never heard of before. Here at IC Learning Center, we want your child’s transition into Kindergarten to be as smooth as possible. We understand that parents are always looking for ways to challenge and guide their children, and we take those concerns seriously.
Our program is designed with your child in mind, and will help develop a strong learning foundation, so that as your child evolves they will have the skills necessary to thrive in academic settings. The certified teachers in our program are attentive, effective and will work towards getting your child ready for kindergarten and the rest of their academic career. Your child’s curriculum will be based on the NYS Pre-K standards which include—Math, Literacy, Science, Creative Arts, Social Skills, and Technology. We want our students to be equipped with these skills so that they can be confident when they transition into a different learning environment. IC Learning Center is the perfect place to equip your child with the skills needed to prevail academically. Our goal is to inspire and cultivate a love of learning and knowledge that will lead to success.
What will my child learn?
Math: Our curriculum focuses on building a strong math foundation. Our students will learn skills in counting, patterns, sizes, matching, money, time and more. We aim to make math digestible and easy for our students to understand. We want our students to enjoy learning and develop their math skills.
Literacy: Reading skills are important for children as they will need to be able to comprehend what they are reading. We will be exposing our students to the alphabet, build new vocabulary and listening skills. They will develop motor skills, learn sequencing and be able to retell stories. Our goal is that our students should be able to spell, and write their own name. We want to develop your child's reading skills so that by the time they reach kindergarten they will be ahead of the curve.
Science: Learning science is imperative in order to foster critical thinking skills in children. Many young children are curious about how the world works, and this program will give them the chance to learn about their environment. Our students will observe insect life, plant growth, how weather and plant life intersect during each season using science tools (magnets, prism, magnifying glass). They will learn how to identify basic colors, make observational drawings and investigate animals and how they live.
Creative Arts: It has been proven that engaging in the creative arts, can help increase brain development in young children and can lead to higher grades in school. Children love being creative and creating with their imagination. We will help students explore various creative outlets such as painting, sculpting, drawing and making collages. They will be exposed to different creative materials like crayons, paint, colored pencils and markers. Our students will be given the opportunity to experiment with paint, use various children’s instruments, participate in plays and act out the movement and sounds of animals.
Social Skills: Having adequate social skills are vital for young children. They will need to develop this skill in order to be able to communicate with the world around them. We will teach them problem-solving skills within social groups, they will practice their manners, and work within groups or with a partner for a variety of projects. We want your child to become comfortable and grow accustomed to working and playing well with other children.
Technology: We live in a highly technological world and the our literacy surrounding the world of technology grows when we’ve been exposed. Learning about technology and how the internet works will be a great asset for children at this age. Technological advancements are moving into the classroom and this program will help your child become comfortable in front of the computer. Our students will learn about how to use the computer and learn to navigate kid-friendly websites.
