After School Program
Your Kids Are In Good Hands!
The overall mission of the IC Center’s After school program is to emanate students’ improved academic achievement through encouraging them to produce quality in contrast to quantity. What we infer by this is that it is more important that students are able to practice concepts they learned in class during the day in the homework they were assigned. Gain new skill sets from the supplemental work our center provides to them that correlates with their needs and weaknesses. As well as enjoy daily activities that encourages them to be active learners, rather than occupy children with an overwhelming multitude of academic exercises that may not guarantee targeted progress.
Therefore, we prefer to focus on two priorities that resonate with this mission firmly.
First, we wish to emphasize the paramount objective for a child to finish their homework. A child’s homework is assigned to them by their teacher to help them to learn the skills they will need as their education progress. We concur that it is our duty to perpetuate these efforts, by mentoring your child to complete as much as they can of their homework during their daily participation at our after school program.
Second, we want to encourage children to continue the learning process through targeted supplemental work to help them focus on not on the skills they learned earlier in the day from their public school teacher, but also help them to improve those that are infirm. We prefer to encourage your child to finish the minimum of 1 and maximum of 2 pages of supplemental work, because true academic achievement is measured via overall public school classroom grades. Supplemental work can help a child improve his/her grade throughout the extended period of academic school year, however, it isn’t the ONLY ultimate solution for him/her.
Even though a true measure of a child’s success in our program will be the final grades your child will receive from his/her teacher, we cannot emphasize enough how important it is for a child to have an educational experience that is “well-rounded.” What we mean by “well-rounded” is that your child is able to have an academic experience with us that is educational, pragmatic yet fun. We encourage them to participate in daily activities, such as story time, science time, or current events. The ultimate goal of these activities is to act as an incentive so that the children will finish their homework, yet enable them to enjoy the learning process with an amusing activity. Giving your child activities in our program that are engaging, interactive and creative allows them to develop another facet in their thinking, yet obtain some energy by doing a new, fun activity that they’ll enjoy.

Supplemental Work
(Note: Your child will be given a maximum of 30 minutes to complete a minimum of 1-2 pages of supplemental work. If a child finishes early, he/she either has the choice to review or expand upon what they are learning by doing work in their after school notebooks).
